An arrow points one way. Put a glass of water in front of it, and suddenly it points the other way. Same arrow. Same room. Totally different answer.
This week's parsha is Re'eh, which means SEE. Moshe stands before the whole nation and says: I'm placing two paths in front of you today, a blessing and a curse. Not listen. Not think about it. SEE. Look with your own eyes before you choose.
Because sometimes the right path and the wrong path look a lot alike at first glance. And the only way to tell them apart is to stop, look again, and really see clearly.
TRY IT AT HOME
All you need is a piece of paper, a marker, and a clear glass of water.
1. Draw a bold arrow pointing left
2. Fill the glass with water and set it a few inches in front of the paper
3. Look through the glass and slowly slide the paper backward
4. Watch the arrow flip
The water acts like a lens. It bends the light passing through it, and the rays cross, so the image reverses left to right. Bonus: turn the arrow to point up instead. It won't flip. Only side to side reverses, because a round glass bends light in just one direction.
