We head to the Female Factory, Parramatta's remarkable former female prison built in 1818. It's an incredible place with many original structures that most Australians and Sydneysiders know nothing about. It seems like Parramatta is not making very good use of its opportunities as a place of Australian heritage. Indeed it seems that a heritage site consigns itself to oblivion if it happens to be in Parramatta - as many of Sydney's most important sites are.
