A Peaceful Minute in Rocky Mountain National Park

$Loveland Pass Colorado: Extreme Altitude Scenic Drive in the Rocky Mountains We start our drive on Loveland Pass in Colorado, heading west from I-70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel. The air is sharp and cold up here, with the Continental Divide’s big peaks rising all around us. The road climbs through tight switchbacks and long curves until we reach the summit at 11,990 feet, nothing but rocky alpine slopes and patches of snow on both sides. Heading down toward Silverthorne, the pavement drops into the wide Blue River Valley, with more mountains in the distance and a couple of small towns tucked along the way. Then we turn around and head back east from Silverthorne. This side hugs steep cliffs and gives wide-open views of Dillon Reservoir sparkling below. Once we crest the pass again, the road drops back down toward I-70, showing off the Arapaho Basin and the rough entrance to the tunnel from a whole different angle. It’s a solid loop through Colorado’s high country. Loveland Pass is the highest paved road in the state that stays open all year. This drive was filmed in early June.
