A brand new original song based around Lucifer and Charlie Morningstar, featuring originally created backing music, sound design, visuals and artwork.
A new year, a new track in this universe, and a chance to update some old characterisation that comes closer to what we finally got in the final completed show after so long.
My original attempts at Lucifer years ago were done on rather little information in comparison to other tracks. Outside of a general idea of him being somewhat dismissive of Charlie, there weren't many clues as to who he was, how he sounded, or how he acted. As a result, my interpretation through the 'Change The Order' project of Lucifer covering a Silent Hill song was wildly inaccurate, even if the themes of a resentment of Heaven were true. And on the other side of that, Charlie had never really been given a chance to shine on my prior Hellaverse work. Projects featuring female vocalists and characters often takes a lot longer to write and create compared to others I've done solo and I'd been wanting a chance to give her a chance to shine ever since her original featured appearance during 'We're Sure To Drown'.
In the wake of the end of Season 1, and the wonderful portrayal of both these characters that helped to establish Lucifer as a favourite, 'It Was Beautiful' was written to serve as an epilogue to the events of that season. I wanted to ground a track like this around a possible scene before the start of Season 2, where Charlie and Lucifer have a chance to reflect on what's happened and have a moment to bond more beyond the brief chance they had. Rather than create something high paced and energetic as I'm normally known for, I wanted to go back to instrumentation similar to Just Look My Way and embrace the sound of more musical-based works to create something emotionally effective.
Bringing back Cycoriot's immense vocal talent to reprise Charlie was a no-brainer, especially after such a stellar job of adding depth to the Husk track with the callbacks and vocalisation that came so close to the final version of the character. But the main thing holding this track from release for longer than I'd like was frankly my own shortcomings: Lucifer's canonical voice being something I just simply could not do myself. Luckily in my aim to make these projects as real to the source as possible, hearing the efforts of The Mediocre Dutchman as Lucifer in the Hazbin Internet parodies was just what was this track needed. The pair of them together on this truly made it shine, coming so close to the reality of these characters at times that it blew me away.
Add into all this some truly stunning artwork and visual presentation from Rayne, who added so much incredible detail and accuracy to their art in everything from the basic shapes to the colour schemes being 1 to 1, and welcoming back MrDemoVE again to bring it all to life with superb editing skills, and this is something I am truly proud of. This one was a chance to try out something beyond what the comic panels on their own would suggest. Coming up with the dialogue for the flashbacks during Angels thoughts, along with the what if scenario of what would happen if he did try to take Husks advice, was fun to imagine and work out how to do in terms of sound design and editing. I feel my Husk is gradually getting better, though maybe went a bit too gruff on this one. But its all a learning experience.
NOTE: As Ive said before on other comic dubs that hint at a particular ship, I humbly request to please avoid making blunt remarks about said ships and the culture that surrounds them as comments or as responses to other people. This is a fan comic done purely for fun and people should be allowed to enjoy this type of content without being called out for having a different preference to someone else. Be civil, be respectful. Anything I see in the comments sections endorsing or acting out this behaviour, I will remove.

Having actually watched Megamind shortly before this comic came out, this felt like the ideal thing to put together to mark my proper return to sound design following my operation, as well as ease back into voice acting by doing such vastly different characters. Im really hoping the show itself ends up making Vox and Alastors rivalry like this because it works far better than it has any right to.
I have a variety of new projects in the works, a lot of stuff that isnt just Hazbin so that I can branch out some more, including some original music and the long-awaited Alien comic which is now finally in full swing to assemble. Stay tuned.

First project of 2021. Its one in particular Ive actually been wanting to work on for some time, but I held off on doing so until I had gotten better at doing sound design since the comics initial release. madelezabeths idea to translate such an iconic scene from Hercules into Hazbin was too good to pass up and Im not going to turn down a chance to act how deliciously evil Valentino can be.

An original song centred around the Goetian prince Stolas, featuring originally created backing music, sound design, voice acted story and artwork.
After how well Eyes On Me was received as my first attempt at original song writing, this is my second. Just Look My Way was a very difficult thing to put together, not just because of the subject matter but because of other things that had been affecting me outside of the work I do for this channel and elsewhere. Tackling all that, I had constant doubts about how accurate to Stolas voice I was being, whether the sudden change in tone from such a highly energetic piece as Voxs song to this would be welcome, among countless other worry. But the end result is something Im ultimately proud of.
Over the past few episodes of Helluva Boss, and through watching the show in general, its clear that Stolas has a sense of emotional ignorance when it comes to how he behaves and how it affects others. While most obviously seen with Octavia, episodes 5 & 6 helped to cement this further with how he behaves in regards to Blitzo. Using pet names, outright calling him a play thing during the summoning, even down to how Blitzo hallucinates being chained to him because of his behaviours. And Stolas seems either oblivious to it or realises it too late.
I wanted this song to address that specifically. For Stolas sense of arrogance to be apparent in how he cant understand why Blitzo is so awkward about being with him despite everything that he can provide, only to realise that it is his own actions that have caused the problem and how it may affect others. I hope this is a topic the later episodes of Helluva will tackle because the setup for it is there.
As a result, the actual music is heavily rooted in both traditional classic instruments and synthetic soundscapes to reflect Stolas position as a royal but with access to the cosmos and magic. Its a subdued score, but something I felt needed to be done suitably to match the sombre mood of the song I was aiming for.
And finally, another huge round of gratitude and praise for Ayyy-Imma-Ninja for once again creating the beautiful artwork used in the video. She not only came up with the basic outlines for what I wanted the images to show, but also added in wonderful little details to really drive the point of the music home (pay attention to the flowers). Been a while hasnt it, folks?
I thought Id mix up the content a little bit with a semi-return to YouTube showcasing sound design work in FL Studio 12.
As part of my Music Production education, I learned the processes of creating sound design for a movie scene from scratch. These processes included things like dubbing voices, sound foley, post processing, music arrangement and mixing. With a little bit of effort, sound effects and music together really gives life to a scene, even with just static imagery. I thought it would be cool to show off that knowledge in a dub like this, so if anyone would be interested in seeing the process for this project, do let me know in the comments.
I chose to use the fantastic comic created by squigglydigg on Tumblr for her superb scene of an alternate universe for Bendy And The Ink Machine. The game has become a bit of favourite of mine with its premise and I cant wait to see how it turns out.
