Abstract

As multi-cloud deployments become the standard, network operators are increasingly burdened by the manual, error-prone task of managing disparate, vendor-specific, and low-level networking primitives. Paraglider addresses this challenge directly; what began as a UC Berkeley research project focused on defining the right cloud networking abstractions has evolved into a collaborative open-source project with contributors from several major cloud providers.

In this talk, we explore Paraglider’s architecture and demonstrate how it enables operators to manage connectivity through high-level intent and policy rather than fragmented configurations. To make the the benefits of the Paraglider abstractions more concrete, we will feature a demo showcasing how Paraglider automates the orchestration of complex inter-cloud topologies.

Sarah McClure:
Sarah McClure is a PhD Student at UC Berkeley. Her research spans many topics in networked systems including cloud networks, congestion control, and more recently load balancing and topologies for AI training. In addition to her research, she is the technical lead for Paraglider, a Linux Foundation Networking project that grew out of her research in cloud networks.
