Released back in 1984, Balloon Fight was one of the original black box games for the NES/Famicom and was Nintendo's answer to Joust. But whereas Joust featured some kind of dystopian future where combatants ride ostrich-like birds and fight each other, Balloon Fight featured a much friendlier fare as your character hovered in the air with the help of two balloons while trying to pop the opponents' balloons. Honestly, I always preferred Balloon Fight over Joust.
Balloon Fight also had a bonus stage and a unique mode, Balloon Trip, where you had to navigate a side-scrolling obstacle course while popping balloons for points. Video game music at the time wasn't really well-developed, but somehow Balloon Fight had this one fun, bouncy track that gets stuck in your head.
Here is my arranged take on the Balloon Trip/Bonus Round music of Balloon Fight using only a PO-128 Mega Man Pocket Operator. I added some papercraft visuals to reenact a level of standard game play and a bonus round. All music was recorded with a Zoom R20 multitracker.
