As the COVID-19 pandemic sweeps the globe, NFPA® 1581, Standard on Fire Department Infection Control Program, offers important and timely guidance for keeping all first responders—firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, law enforcement, and others—safe in any situation where an infection transmission could occur. In this episode of Learn Something New™ by NFPA Journal®, four of the infection control and protection methods are discussed. These include user groups who can use the guidance in the standard, ICO designation, using PPE, and cleaning yourself and your PPE.
