In October 2024, WWF hosted a Pandas and Prose webinar with author and philosopher Peter Godfrey-Smith and WWF's Becky Chaplin-Kramer, Global Biodiversity Lead Scientist for Global Science. About the Speakers:
Peter Godfrey-Smith is the author of the bestselling Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea, and the Deep Origins of Consciousness, which has been published in more than twenty languages, and Metazoa: Animal Life and the Birth of the Mind. His other books include Theory and Reality: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Science and Darwinian Populations and Natural Selection, which won the 2010 Lakatos Award. He is a professor in the School of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Sydney.

Becky Chaplin-Kramer is Global Biodiversity Lead Scientist for World Wildlife Fund, working across the WWF network and with external partners to advance the science and implementation of conservation strategies to support biodiversity and its myriad contributions to people's well-being. Throughout her career, Becky has led ecosystem service assessments, scenario development and targeting exercises working with government, NGOs and companies around the world, from local to national to global scales. She was a Coordinating Lead Author on the Values Assessment for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and is now a Lead Author on the upcoming IPBES Nexus Assessment. She earned her PhD in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from University of California, Berkeley, and an MS and BS in Earth Systems from Stanford University
