Sharks are often stereotyped. The reality is that sharks are most often the victims. They’re killed by the millions annually to supply demand for their meat and fins. This is depleting shark populations worldwide. Today over 1/3 of shark species have been pushed towards extinction by overfishing and bycatch. WWF is working with fishing communities to identify alternative seafood options and reduce the incidental catch of vulnerable shark populations in fishing gear as bycatch.
