Panama and the Panama Canal was our 3rd port we visited. The Panama Canal is a fascinating invention that connects the Caribbean Sea with the Pacific Ocean which provides a huge shortcut. The canal has multiple locks & dams, and was expanded in 2016 to allow larger ships to pass through. The new canal is part of the same system, but has a two-lock, single lane system.
We went through the canal first, then went on an excursion about an hour away on a boat cruise through a rain forest in the Gatun lake where we saw ships as well on our way. There are many cargo ships that pass through the canal. I’ve never seen so many gigantic ships in my life.
When we got to the rain forest, we saw monkeys and birds and experienced the tropical climate and atmosphere.
We really enjoyed this boat ride and seeing some wildlife!
