Every year I spend time with my family in the back country of northern British Columbia. We always have fun adventures exploring parts of Canada you can't see from the highway, and I come home with reference photos to paint for the rest of the year.
Painting from my own photos helps me savor precious family memories, and it also helps me experience my surroundings more fully, because I'm always looking for beautiful little aspects to paint. The best artists can see art in the most mundane environments, but it's also pretty fun to seek out beauty and try to capture it on the brush.

Watch me paint a cascading waterfall in two variations by watching the series that this video opens.
