The goodies do not actually appear until the level is complete and the gates are re-opened, hence all the backtracking. You could nab the key to the super secret hellgate on your way here, but one step at a time, eh?

Also only showing back by secret four after the exit is open, this does not count as a secret but is still worth your time, especially when going after the card.
