Someone on YouTube asked me to clarify my thoughts on using magic for personal gain. I hadnt done so in that particular video so here I am!
The tldr; version of my answer is yes, you can use magic for personal gain. There is no hard and fast rule in witchcraft that says you cant use magic to get things you want or need. Listen in to hear my reasons, my thoughts on where this idea comes from, and how I feel that it is harmful to certain communities.

**PLEASE READ ME**
This is my life. This is part of who I am, and even though it isnt glamorous or beautiful, it is me. In my prose, I mention the spirit of depression. This is a concept that I first encountered in Terence Wards book Empty Cauldrons. I am still on the fence about categorizing my depression as a spirit, but through conversation with friends, I have come to understand how it can be helpful in othering the Depression I live with. This is not necessarily an occult concept, nor do I believe that mental illness is caused by an actual spirit. I also understand the way I speak about my depression here is not going to ring true for everyone else and I respect that. Please respect my thoughts as well.

Im reading Thorn Mooneys new book, The Witchs Path, and its already sparking some thoughts for me. When I talk about my ego getting in the way of my growth, Im talking about looking down on certain practices, disregarding them as too woo woo or New Age or just outright not good. But that can turn into a problem, especially when we stagnate in our practice and seem like we have nowhere else to go.
