STORY
In this episode, we take you deep into the mountains of central Portugal to explore a forgotten historic estate that has been abandoned for 55 years.
The last resident, a man named Carlos, locked the doors in 1957 and never returned. Since then, this once-grand property has been left to crumble, even though it is now officially listed as a historic monument.
Inside, time has stood still. Dust-covered desks are still stacked with letters and documents from the 1940s and 50s, the furniture remains exactly where it was left, and in the grand rooms above your head, incredible painted ceilings from the 1800s tell stories of saints, battles and family crests.
Adding to the mystery is the private chapel. Local legend says a young woman was buried alive beneath its altar, and on stormy nights you can still hear her footsteps in the dark.
