PODCAST SEASON 5 - OVERLAND THROUGH SOUTHEAST ASIA
We visit Bokor Hill Station and two caves with temples.
Bokor Hill Station in Preah Monivong National Park was built in the 1920s by French colonists wanting to escape the heat and humidity. The site is under a 99–year lease to the Chinese Sokimex Group. We have never seen a nature reserve so thoroughly ruined. Everything looks abandoned, poorly maintained and grimy green. Of many of the other buildings, only the concrete carcasses are standing, without any work being done on them. Features we visited are the Old Catholic Church, built in the 1920s, Wat Sampov Pram Monastery, also established in the 1920s and the Popokvil Waterfalls.
We visit Phnom Chhnork, built in the 7th century and dedicated to Shiva. and Phnom Sorsia containing Buddhist cultural features approached by a staircase and a complex of karst caves.
On the last day of our stay in Kampot we make a river cruise with a great vibe.
