Cinque Terre in northwestern Italy consists of five villages. Departing from Levanto west of Cinque Terre, we visit four of the villages as well as Porto Venere to the east. The coastline, the five villages, Porto Venere and the surrounding hills are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over the centuries, people have built terraces in the rugged, precipitous landscape down to the cliffs overlooking the Ligurian Sea. Paths, trains and boats connect the villages, as cars can only reach them from the outside with great difficulty through narrow and difficult mountain roads.
