He'd had five attempts so far in his career, but had yet to find the back of the net. Against a Flyers team that Ovechkin had tormented in his career (18 goals in 18 games), the Capitals' new captain was dangerous once again. After setting up Mike Knuble for a first period marker, Ovechkin found his stick in passing lanes and was constantly breaking up Philadelphia's plays. While only officially credited with three takeaways on the evening, Ovechkin created five turnovers, and on the last one a hook from Danny Briere resulted in Ovechkin being awarded a rare penalty shot. The Great 8 made no mistake this time, burying his 30th of the season on the backhand to put the game away for Washington.
