YESI, 35, who is 2 ft 11”, was born with diastrophic dysplasia, a rare type of dwarfism. She has a younger sister with the same condition, Celia, who is 29 and 3 ft 3". Yesi told truly: "The physical effect of my form of dwarfism is mainly a short stature, but outside of that, everything else is average. Our organs and our minds. Everything works the same as any average person and the life expectancy is the same." After suffering hardships in her childhood, Yesi has tried to encourage her sister to have confidence in herself, despite their small stature. She explained: "Growing up as a young kid, I did feel very pretty. I think it was because I would get all this attention. And back then I thought that it was positive attention. People would be like, 'Oh, look at the little girl. She's cute.' But once I reached my teenage years I felt extremely ugly and different. I did not look at myself in the mirror. I hated the mirror." She continued: "Since I was born six years before Celia, I have shared the strengths and weaknesses that come with having dwarfism, and I wanted to make sure that she could have a better chance than I did. I started instilling in Celia [that] we've got to love ourselves and we are strong. And since I knew that physically we couldn't do much, I would remind my younger sister, you are very smart, so dedicate as much as you can to having a really good education." Yesi is now a psychotherapist and Celia is a teacher, both sisters are successful in their respective careers. Yesi has even applied to be measured for the Guinness World Record for the shortest psychotherapist in the world. Reflecting on their journeys, Celia said: "We've come a long way. Sometimes I forget that I'm a little person. I'm very proud of who I am. It was not easy, but the fact that I was able to overcome all of the obstacles that came my way makes me feel very proud."
