Our National Parks have holes in them. But, they’re not holes in the ground - they’re holes on a map. They’re called inholdings, pieces of private property inside our national parks and other conserved areas. You can find them dotted across the landscape of America’s public lands, and they can have serious consequences for how these lands are protected.
In this simple explainer, I’ll cover what inholdings are, why they matter, how they affect the way we protect our parks, and what we can do to close them.
