East Tennessee has played a defining role in nuclear science since the beginning. Today, Oak Ridge National Laboratory is bringing together the people, facilities, science and partnerships needed to shape the next generation of nuclear energy.

At the Nuclear Opportunities Workshop in Knoxville, Tennessee, leaders and researchers discussed why the region is uniquely positioned to deliver on the future of nuclear innovation. From advanced reactor technologies and fuel cycles to materials science, plasma physics, tritium breeding, workforce development and the broader nuclear supply chain, ORNL is helping connect the pieces required to move nuclear energy forward.

With deep expertise in both fission and fusion, world-class research facilities, computational capabilities and a legacy of nuclear leadership, ORNL is working with partners across the region and the nation to advance nuclear science for energy, security and competitiveness.
