In this video, I discuss the concepts that sedimentary layers are initially deposited approximately horizontally and that younger layers overlie older layers (the concept of superposition). The video consists of two parts: 1) An introduction to the concepts; and 2) Examples from the Grand Canyon, Rainbow Basin (both on Earth) and Mt. Sharp, Gale Crater, Mars.
