Tips for Organizing Your Tool Shed
Tip 1
Customize your tool rack with pegboard. Pegboard is a very versatile material to use for tool organization. It can be cut to fit almost any area and pegs can be purchased for the specific tools you have.
Tip 2
Group tools. Grouping tools by their use is a good idea for organization. For example, group all your pruning tools together. This will make finding all the tools for your next pruning job, quick and easy.
Tip 3
Keep the tools you use the most at eye level. In gardening, you will tend to use some tools more than others. Put the tools you don’t use often close to the ceiling and floor. Reserve the eye level space for those tools you will use on a daily basis.
Tip 4
Use a basket for your daily tools. Another good idea is to use a basket (or bucket) to keep all your daily tools in. This will prevent having to hang up those high-use tools everyday.
Tip 5
Use magnets. When your tool shed space is limited, magnets are always a good idea. Attaching a magnet can turn a small section of wall space into an excellent location for hanging smaller garden tools (scissors, pruning knife, etc.).
Tip 6
Hang up seed. Leaving bags of seed on the floor will attract mice to your shed. An easy solution- use and eye hook and some wire, to hang the seed from the top of the shed. Hanging will also keep the seed dry.
Tip 7
Put labels under your hooks. After you have assigned a place for each and every tool, it is a good idea to make labels for each location. This will make returning the tools to their proper place easier, and will also alert you to which tools are missing.
