Organ donation has been described as ‘when you decide to give an organ to save or transform the life of someone else’ (NHS Blood and Transplant). It has also been described as a ‘gift of life’ by transplant services and recipients who have received a lifesaving or life-enhancing organ transplant. Some organs can be donated while a person is alive and is known as living donation. However, most organs and tissues are donated after people have died and is known as deceased donation.
