An estimated 3.2 million orphaned oil and gas wells exist across the United States, and about 14 million Americans live within one mile of a documented orphaned well. With no responsible operator, these wells can present serious environmental and safety risks, including hydrogen sulfide gas, flammability, and crude oil leaking onto the ground. Oracle and the Well Done Foundation are collaborating in New Mexico to help address this challenge. The collaboration helps the Well Done Foundation accelerate its orphaned well plugging efforts, provide job training for local talent, and generate additional benefits for local communities. The effort reflects a shared focus on leaving communities and the environment better than they were found.
