Thorlabs ½” diameter posts feature smaller 8-32 (imperial) or M4 (metric) tapped holes on their top, ¼”-20 (imperial) or M6 (metric) tapped holes on their bottom, and a through hole on the side of the post. The smaller tapped holes ship with a setscrew for threading into an optomechanic mount with a tapped hole. The through-hole on the side of the post offers a leverage point to insert a ball driver, apply more torque, and tighten (or loosen) the connection between the post and the piece of optomech. Care should be taken when holding kinematic mounts to ensure no damage occurs while under torque.
