For three generations the Vaccaro/Mauceri family has been perfecting the art of puppetry in Syracuse, Sicily. On a recent trip, I met with Alfredo Mauceri, who along with four other members of his family, is keeping the tradition alive in the Jewish Quarter on the island of Ortygia, location of the Old City of Syracuse. Following a show, he demonstrated how he operates the puppets.
