As some of you already know - Lizzy’s background is opera. When the band decided to play this gorgeous Sidney Bechet clarinet duet (“Waste No Tears”), the band’s arranger, Dan Barrett, suggested a crazy idea: Lizzy should sing the 2nd clarinet part 😬 Clarinets and voices are two VERY different instruments - and as you can hear in this song there are passages where the vocals have to navigate 3 octaves in a single measure!! Not to mention hear harmonies that are pretty dissonant. But it was a fun challenge to meld the band’s jazz aesthetic with Lizzy’s soprano background. Hope you dig!
