Welcome to my booktube channel, Voyage of a Time Wanderer! Hope you enjoy opening my latest #bookmail with me!
🏴
I am always looking for unique and rare research books to add to my little family history library, so when I saw this title available on Thriftbooks, I scooped it up! It has so many interesting photos and snippets of social history… the perfect addition to the Isle of Harris/Outer Hebrides section of my genealogy reference shelf.
🏴
One of the Scottish branches in my family tree originated on the Isle of Harris, part of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Although they immigrated to Canada in the 1860s, I am still in contact with living cousins there and when I visited in 2014 I felt a strong sense of home, more than any other location I have yet traveled to as genealogy tourism. I describe it as being homesick for a place I never lived, but my ancestors walked. I felt a literal heartache as I took the ferry back to the Isle of Skye and watched Harris grow smaller and smaller on the horizon!
🏴
Looking forward to enjoying all the pictures in this book whenever I am nostalgic for my Scottish ancestors and wistful to return to this remote part of Scotland.
