Opening an old GOLD mine gets a whole lot more interesting when the GOLD starts showing up.
We’re back at Tyler’s underground gold mine helping him open up more of the old workings, follow the vein and figure out where the richest gold is hiding. This time Tyler fires up the jackleg, we sample the mineralized zones, inspect the quartz and alteration, and then pan the material to see what’s really there.
And there is GOLD.
Tyler has been working this mine the hard way — drilling, mucking, timbering and sampling underground by hand while following pockets of gold through the vein system.
In one section, the gold shows up as extremely fine “whisker gold” in the quartz.
Then we check Tyler’s pan.
There’s fine gold throughout the concentrate, and one pocket Tyler worked produced approximately 10.75 GRAMS OF GOLD from only about 300 pounds of material.
But the biggest surprise comes deeper in the mine.
According to the information Tyler has on these workings, one of the zones produced anywhere from approximately 4 to 20 OUNCES OF GOLD PER TON.
Now he’s trying to reach more of that ground.
