When Loreleila spotted a curious looking mirror in one of my videos recently she developed object-envy for it, and I happily fulfilled that yearning by sending it to her, along with an odd assortment of objects I thought she also might like.
This video details her real-world response to that package. What I didn't know when filming this video, and which I found out from her letter, was the significance of the items she had sent. The two pieces of stone were from Santorini, Greece, the site of the enormous volcanic eruption that has been linked to Atlantis and the Exodus stories in the Bible.
The book of poetry was actually penned by Loreleila's grandfather. I had admired her video reading from his journal.
The card with the letter inside I had completely disregarded in the video but was in fact a Loreleila original, created by the light of an oil lamp during a power cut. It features a bubble-blowing dragon!
The little spoon was indeed from Boscastle and is apparently a 'tea-caddy spoon'. Well, if it's a spoon for tea then, really, it should have my name on it!
The piece of slate with the slogan 'For You' came from the same series as those featured in another favourite video of mine where Loreleila surreptitiously placed several such stones in gift shops around Cornwall.
The piece of crockery came from Loreleila's garden, and could be far older than I suspect. I may seek an expert opinion on that... ..Mr. s0up!
The chicken is - of course - a cockerel. Trust a city boy like me not to spot the difference immediately. ;¬)
The matchboxes cam from a teenage collection fed by Loreleila's father's world travels.
And The Prophet? Well, everyone should have a copy of that on their shelf. I certainly do, and now Loreleila's spare has become mine. I press that book on people from time to time and I always get a bewildered reaction. As in, what is an atheist doing promoting such a book? My answer is always the same - "because it's brilliant, and it's wise and it's compassionate and just read the damn thing!"
