GSR = Ganondorf Source Requirement. The re-named version of what was previously No IM/WW (no item manpulation/wrong warp). This is the new record though I will beat it very very soon. Also, sorry the quality isn't great. I just exported from twitch because it's such a small PB.
Choked 1:13 at Ganon, but terrible run even if I didn't (Spirit BK skip was extremely good though). Random no reset run I did during a short stream. Lots of timeloss through the whole run. Mirror shield through Twinrova was very solid though, and I golded rova by 0.8 seconds (split late and re-timed after).
The RNG I got was insane and I'll almost always lose some time compared to that. About tied my Mirror Shield gold as well despite doing 9 explosive hover instead of 8 like my previous PB did. I think at the moment my sum of best can go down quite a bit, into low 1:11. I only recently got it into sub 1:12. Getting 1:12 would be much, much easier than when I got 1:15 years back, both because the route is a lot easier and because I've improved since then.
Main timelosses:
20s child section (10s on escape because of the neutral position mishap)
20s hoverboots
10s bongo
20s enter wasteland
10-15s forest
20s ganondorf (18s to one stalfos)
15s ganon (rip 1:13)
Smaller timelosses:
5s on bombs
5s on hookshot
5s on collapse
10s loss on the first split because I had ess mapped as neutral position, likely because I was holding it when I reset as it's like that the whole escape segment until I'm setting up the wess (can see on the input viewer the stick isn't perfectly in place). I stop to hit L+R+Start to reset the controller and end up pausing on top of that as a result. This can also happen pretty much randomly when controllers get worn out, so hopefully won't become too common.
Just came back to speedrunning OoT in the past couple weeks. Since my WR last year, not a lot has changed strat wise besides the new "Boatkey" skip in Shadow Temple, an amazing new trick where you superslide directly to the boss loading zone. Of course, I do it with 1 bomb superslide and no pause buffering because that's how I roll (pun intended).
Other than that, I've just improved, and that's why the goal is 1 hour and 12 minutes. This run and its timelosses just show how possible it is. At the moment I think a 1:12:3x is manageable, but I will probably be done for awhile at 1:12.
I could be doing DC hover route which saves 20-25 seconds, but some of that time is lost doing Spirit Jump over hover (on top of being hard to do consistantly as fast) and it's easy to lose time on DC hover. It's an easy trick (in my opinion) but I think the route is more fun without it, and I don't need it to get the time I want.
There are some minor glitches in the game feed around 30-40 minutes in. It's one of the many problems with my laptop which is why I'm raising money for a new one.
Shoutouts to my man TripppAU for two $20 donations during the stream. He's a solid runner from Australia who continues to improve. Follow him on twitch (TripppAU).
Also, follow CountLG on YouTube & Twitch, he's up and coming as a top runner and just beat this with a 1:14:10 recently!

![The 24 Days of Final Fantasy VI 2025 - Day 24
Day 24 - Kefkas Tower
Locations: Ebots Rock, Colosseum, Kefkas Tower
Steps Taken: 54,226
Playtime: 1:29 (realistically ~1:50)
Total Playtime: 27:33
Characters: [Terra (L30) Locke (L29) Mog (L30) Cyan (L29)]
[Clyde (L30) Relm (L29) Setzer (L29) Celes (L29)]
[Gau (L29) Sabin (L29) Strago (L29) Edgar (L29)]
In the brackets [-] I separated the 3 groups to storm the Tower. I started off learning Grand Train from Hidon, who was way easier leveled up. Grabbed a bunch of healing items beforehand, I left out the coral gathering. Flew over to the Colosseum after to bet an Elixir for Rename Card, since I like to rename Shadow as his true name: Clyde. I did bet Force Shield for Thornlet and that for Mirage Vest, thinking itd be good on Mog, but lousy stats. It was now time to storm Kefkas Tower.
I had 3 main mage groups, though everyone knew good Cure/Life spells. Edited out putting my teams together since it took a bit, and I was off. Everyone was so overpowered, and when Id find myself in an encounter I couldnt escape, Id just kill the Great Behemoth. Charm Bangles helped, and Mogs group was set. I did leave out also some equipping, since there was some trading or forgetting who had what on. Ill say this much: the Tower was extremely easy overall, I dont think Ive ever fought him without him even using Havoc Wing once, so that RNG was interesting. I did somehow forget Doom was weak to Pearl, then by the time I had Terra cast it, Doom had Reflect on, but Mog finished him from the sky afterwards. He became quite a strong Dragoon.
Since the Tower is pretty much all bosses and the very important scene of consulting with Kefka, theres not much to say. Gau Wind Goded on Inferno, the Warring Triad were a joke. I sadly miscalculated a bit with the groups and never learned Quasar. Dark Force couldve taught me too, but his magic stat was so high, Grand Train didnt even come in handy. Anyway, I edited out what I felt was necessary, which couldve included some random encounters, but I wanted to show as much of the Tower as I could and how I managed to get by. Smoke Bombs were my main method of escape since its guaranteed, and every character has their own runaway success stat. Not to mention, enemy formations have their own difficulty with escaping.
When confronting Kefka and watching the scene, which like the Floating Continent is something better viewed than talked about, it took awhile for me to decide the order of my team. I did forget to add in Kefka utterly annihilating me in his final phase. It was just unfair, Train, Havoc Wing, Havoc Wing, Fallen One, Hyper Drive. He can be hard sometimes, really easy others. But the 2nd time around was the easiest Ive beaten him around this level, and in the 24 Days in general. Wasnt sure Id survive Goner though. The same 4 members that reached him and died are the same 4 who got their sweet revenge. I liked what I had going, wanted a father & daughter thing with Shadow & Relm. I wouldnt have minded if Gau bit a Calmness.
As a Wind God, he can do so much damage which was helping with phases 1 and 2. Smart move of me to put Life 3 on Terra at the last phase, she was definitely what made Kefka so easy. Locke dealt quite a bit of damage for level 29, doing around 4,500 damage per attack and this was without the Red Cap. I had that on Edgar and forgot to remove it for the 2nd battle, so Locke wouldve been doing closer to 5,000. Illumina helped, of course. I did forget the Wing Edge from the Phoenix Cave, but by the time I realized that I wasnt willing to go back, nor did I really have time. Ultimately, Kefka and his tower fell pretty easily, dogwalked by a bunch of level 29 thugs.
Its been 20 years since this challenge was conceived, so I thought Id pay tribute, and actually did impose a challenge on myself by playing lower leveled, which made the first 10 days so much more difficult than they needed to be, especially when I was playing with the flu and symptoms after. But its done, and I realize no one cares that much or watches really, but to the few who do, thanks for following this. Im sure Nangbaby, who introduced this to YouTube in 2006 will see it one day and maybe then itll spark people to start doing it again. Either way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!
