Day 3
Locations: Phantom Train, Baren Falls, The Veldt, Mobliz
Steps Taken: 6,697
Playtime: 1:14
Total Playtime: 3:20
Characters: Shadow (L5) Sabin (L6) Cyan (L7) Ghost (L7) Gau (L7)
Fixed the video/audio quality issues. Spent Day 3 going through the Phantom Train, running from all battles of course, but making sure I had the important encounters for Gau. I talked to an enemy Ghost by mistake looking for the merchant, but then I came across a friendly Ghost first and recruited him. I figured possess would be useful on something. When I got to the dining room, I did the scene just for fun, and showed Shadow's after which some might not know about. Grabbed the chests from behind afterwards, finally have an Earring. Once I got to Siegfried, Interceptor just tore him apart. I'd put Blackbelt on Cyan to counter, but the pup did it for me. Grabbed the hidden tent in the empty room and the treasures from the next car.
Specter was a bit of a close call, I forgot which chest he'd been in before I could revive Sabin, who I'd need the most with Aura Bolt. I thought about using a Fenix Down, normally I grab the Revivify from the chest to use on him, but that's where my Ghost pal came in handy. Actually, I forget if that thing is really undead, I'm pretty sure it is. Possess can work on even undead enemies as far as I know. Another Hyper Wrist is good though, and the Sniper Sight will be a free 1,500 GP to sell, since this relic does nothing on the SNES/PS1 versions. Near the end here, so I went towards the Phantom Train to get off.
I gave the Phantom Train a normal try before using a Fenix Down. Of course, forgot I was bumped into the front row again, but that's not the issue. You aren't able to win at the lowest level without using his undead property against him, because Acid Rain will destroy everyone, let alone if he's in the pattern where he starts with Evil Toot and spams Scar Beam, which will destroy you too. Even at a decent level, this pattern can be quite dangerous. After I lost, I just used a Fenix Down. No, I couldn't at least use Suplex first and then use a Fenix down because Sabin only has Pummel and Aura Bolt, so that's unfortunate.
Once the scene of Cyan watching his family board was over, I headed towards Baren Falls. Made sure to get a grouping of Stray Cat with the others since I only had one Stray Cat grouping of 3. This would increase my chances of finding a Stray Cat on the Veldt. I did keep changing the battle settings to active and wait back and forth throughout this day which was maybe not a great idea. I realize why so many low level playthroughs I struggled so much, and this is why. You can make some bosses basically impossible to beat, like Ultros. I had it on wait fighting Rizopas, which I thought would go worse, but it went fine. I got a bit lucky since it didn't use anything too dangerous.
From there, I wash up on the Veldt and Gau is introduced. This is where I expected things to get very rough. It's easy to spend hours on the Veldt trying to get good rages. I had some of the best luck I've ever had in so many ways. I grabbed the Dried Meat from Mobliz so Gau would join my party. I did overall grab some Iron Armors, a Magus Hat and Kotetsu. I thought a stronger weapon = stronger SwdTech, only to learn after it doesn't. The first encounter was Dark Side. I died to a Pterodon's Fireball attack after I'd saved, so had to redo a few battles, but this worked in my favor since I could leap Templar. A few later, he appeared. Marshal, the most desirable rage and one of the rarest to find this early. I was afraid I'd be resetting for hours, advancing the enemy tables by 13 until I found him, but he was right there.
Also grabbed Trillium, Stray Cat, Bomb, Hazer, Rhodox, Bleary and Pterodon. Rinn and Spectre as well, but these just cast Fire, I wasn't sure. Fought 3 Telstars, so I got 3 more Green Berets and now have a total of 4. Headed towards Crescent Mountain and did a few battles just to see what I'd get. Leaped Bleary only to find out it's a pretty useful spell. I'll have to come back a bit later for more, but this is a seriously good haul. Blaze is best from a bomb, since Vaporite is weak to fire. Saved the game after I got Fireball and ended Day 3 pretty satisfied. I'll list what these enemies' rages are below (at least the meaningful ones).
Dark Side: Ice 2
Templar: Fire 2
Hazer: Bolt 2
Bomb: Blaze
Marshal: Wind Slash
Stray Cat: Catscratch
Trilium: Bio
Bleary: Doom
Rhodox: Snare
Pterodon: Fireball

![The 24 Days of Final Fantasy VI 2025 - Day 24
Day 24 - Kefkas Tower
Locations: Ebots Rock, Colosseum, Kefkas Tower
Steps Taken: 54,226
Playtime: 1:29 (realistically ~1:50)
Total Playtime: 27:33
Characters: [Terra (L30) Locke (L29) Mog (L30) Cyan (L29)]
[Clyde (L30) Relm (L29) Setzer (L29) Celes (L29)]
[Gau (L29) Sabin (L29) Strago (L29) Edgar (L29)]
In the brackets [-] I separated the 3 groups to storm the Tower. I started off learning Grand Train from Hidon, who was way easier leveled up. Grabbed a bunch of healing items beforehand, I left out the coral gathering. Flew over to the Colosseum after to bet an Elixir for Rename Card, since I like to rename Shadow as his true name: Clyde. I did bet Force Shield for Thornlet and that for Mirage Vest, thinking itd be good on Mog, but lousy stats. It was now time to storm Kefkas Tower.
I had 3 main mage groups, though everyone knew good Cure/Life spells. Edited out putting my teams together since it took a bit, and I was off. Everyone was so overpowered, and when Id find myself in an encounter I couldnt escape, Id just kill the Great Behemoth. Charm Bangles helped, and Mogs group was set. I did leave out also some equipping, since there was some trading or forgetting who had what on. Ill say this much: the Tower was extremely easy overall, I dont think Ive ever fought him without him even using Havoc Wing once, so that RNG was interesting. I did somehow forget Doom was weak to Pearl, then by the time I had Terra cast it, Doom had Reflect on, but Mog finished him from the sky afterwards. He became quite a strong Dragoon.
Since the Tower is pretty much all bosses and the very important scene of consulting with Kefka, theres not much to say. Gau Wind Goded on Inferno, the Warring Triad were a joke. I sadly miscalculated a bit with the groups and never learned Quasar. Dark Force couldve taught me too, but his magic stat was so high, Grand Train didnt even come in handy. Anyway, I edited out what I felt was necessary, which couldve included some random encounters, but I wanted to show as much of the Tower as I could and how I managed to get by. Smoke Bombs were my main method of escape since its guaranteed, and every character has their own runaway success stat. Not to mention, enemy formations have their own difficulty with escaping.
When confronting Kefka and watching the scene, which like the Floating Continent is something better viewed than talked about, it took awhile for me to decide the order of my team. I did forget to add in Kefka utterly annihilating me in his final phase. It was just unfair, Train, Havoc Wing, Havoc Wing, Fallen One, Hyper Drive. He can be hard sometimes, really easy others. But the 2nd time around was the easiest Ive beaten him around this level, and in the 24 Days in general. Wasnt sure Id survive Goner though. The same 4 members that reached him and died are the same 4 who got their sweet revenge. I liked what I had going, wanted a father & daughter thing with Shadow & Relm. I wouldnt have minded if Gau bit a Calmness.
As a Wind God, he can do so much damage which was helping with phases 1 and 2. Smart move of me to put Life 3 on Terra at the last phase, she was definitely what made Kefka so easy. Locke dealt quite a bit of damage for level 29, doing around 4,500 damage per attack and this was without the Red Cap. I had that on Edgar and forgot to remove it for the 2nd battle, so Locke wouldve been doing closer to 5,000. Illumina helped, of course. I did forget the Wing Edge from the Phoenix Cave, but by the time I realized that I wasnt willing to go back, nor did I really have time. Ultimately, Kefka and his tower fell pretty easily, dogwalked by a bunch of level 29 thugs.
Its been 20 years since this challenge was conceived, so I thought Id pay tribute, and actually did impose a challenge on myself by playing lower leveled, which made the first 10 days so much more difficult than they needed to be, especially when I was playing with the flu and symptoms after. But its done, and I realize no one cares that much or watches really, but to the few who do, thanks for following this. Im sure Nangbaby, who introduced this to YouTube in 2006 will see it one day and maybe then itll spark people to start doing it again. Either way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!
