Jiano stumbled upon this glitch when racing a while ago. He wasn't going to make a video, and I didn't want it to disappear in the future.
The fake Biggoron's Sword doesn't actually appear until you pull out the Claim Check again, pulling out a Big Poe, or collecting an item that Link holds over his head (like a Fish, or Bugs). If you leave the screen before getting the fake Biggoron's Sword, you don't get the icon and must show him the Claim Check again.
After you get the fake Biggoron's Sword, you have to go buy the Giant's Knife to get the Biggoron's Sword to work.
If you Save and Quit, it stays in your inventory as the icon, and still does not work.
