NEXAT is bringing its multi-use machinery system to Canadian fields, with the first units now operating in southern Saskatchewan.

At Ag in Motion at Langham, Sask., RealAgriculture’s Amber Bell caught up with Welf von Plato, a member of NEXAT’s management board, to get a closer look at the high-horsepower carrier vehicle and the concept behind it.

Rather than dedicating a power unit to a single job, the NEXAT carrier is designed to handle a range of field operations, including planting, cultivation, spreading, spraying, and harvest. Implements can be swapped in about 15 minutes, says von Plato, allowing the 1,100-horsepower machine to see greater utilization throughout the growing season.

“It’s a multi-use carrier vehicle where you can attach different applications... planting, cultivating, spreading, even spraying. And then as we see it here as a combine... you can detach and attach to a new implement within only 15 minutes,” von Plato says.

NEXAT develops the carrier and combine unit, while working with established implement manufacturers to adapt equipment for other field operations.

The company, founded about a decade ago, now has machines working in Germany, Ukraine, Romania, Brazil, and Canada. Autonomous operation is also part of its development path, with autonomous NEXAT machines already working commercially in Brazil.

For Canadian growers, von Plato says the company is providing direct sales and after-sales support, along with a five-year warranty.

“We are targeting large-scale farms to replace the equipment and use this machine not only for the harvest as you see it here, but also for other applications, planting, if you do cultivation or spreading and spraying as well.”
