Cindy and Lou Campbell began the Ty Louis Campbell Foundation in honor of their son Ty, who was diagnosed with a malignant rhabdoid tumor when he was only 2 years old. The passing of Ty in October 2012 led to a strengthened commitment by the Campbell family to financially support scientific discoveries that could lead to improved prognoses for kids like Ty. Their search led them to Samuel Cheshier, MD, PhD, a pediatric neurosurgeon and cancer researcher at Huntsman Cancer Institute. The collaboration between the Ty Louis Campbell Foundation and Dr. Cheshier has resulted in an anti-CD-47 clinical trial now made possible at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
