Istanbul, Turkey or Turkiye has been at the top of my bucket list for a long time and I finally made it! My sister and I started a cruise from Istanbul but couldn’t leave the city without seeing as much as possible. We found a one-day, all-day tour that covered the major sights and spend the entire day wrapped in the history and beauty of this ancient city that sits at the crossroads of Asia and Europe. It has been Byzantium, Constantinople and Istanbul and was the capital of empires.

We visited
The Hippodrome, now Sultanahmet Square, with its Obelisk of Theodosius, Serpent’s Column and Walled Obelisk
The Hagia Sophia, one of the oldest places in the city, first a church, then a mosque, now a mosque and museum
The Blue Mosque or Sultan Ahmed Mosque
The Basilica Cistern
Topkapi Palace
Stopped for Baklava and Apple Tea
The Grand Bazaar
Took the tram to our Bosphorus River Cruise, seeing the sights on both the European and Asian side of the river.
We arrived back at Sultanahmet Square for sunset

Istanbul is a fabulous city full of history and culture and one day isn’t enough. I’ll be back someday to see more of this fascinating city!
