At Embedded World 2025, Electromaker stopped by the Silicon Labs booth to check out one of the most practical solutions for smart home and industrial IoT: an energy harvesting development kit.

Designed to eliminate the need for batteries, this modular dev kit supports solar, vibration, thermal, and RF-based energy harvesting. Whether you're building battery-free light switches, step-triggered sensors, or environmentally conscious IoT nodes, the kit helps developers evaluate multiple energy sources and storage options (like capacitors) with ease.

The system supports Zigbee Green Power and Bluetooth LE, using ultra-efficient Silicon Labs chips paired with e-peas power management ICs. Also included is a coin cell-powered baseboard to help developers understand power consumption before switching to harvesting mode.
