Protect, stabilise, reduce, treat, educate, understand… Saving lives can take many forms when it comes to caring for stray dogs.

As much as everyone else, we would love for all animals to stop suffering. Unfortunately, with years of experience fighting for their welfare around the world, the real possibilities can fall short.

➡️ But it doesn’t mean that we can look away and give up on them.

Our work for the strays at the Podujeva landfill in Kosovo is a great example of the difficulty of caring for numerous helpless animals in dire need of support.

Caring for the dogs living there is no longer about what we want, but about what they need. We often get asked why we can’t simply take them all away from this place.

Because in their world, they don’t seek human contact, they even resent it. Many are feral, deeply territorial, and most of all, they roam free. We are not trying to romanticise their lives, or the hardships they face. But adoption is not always an option, and confinement in a cage never is...

Then, what is? Reducing their suffering, right where they live, and ensuring no more puppies grow up there fighting against the same odds.

Treating their injuries, vaccinating them against harmful diseases, neutering them to halt heat and fights... Understanding and easing their pain, whilst aiming to naturally reduce their numbers, for easier and more successful management of their population and their relationship with the local community. ❤️‍🩹

Supporting stray animals is no one-off project, it is a commitment that can only be pursued with the strong collaboration of experts and true animal welfare supporters on the ground. 🤝

Our work, along with local partners fighting for better animal welfare measures in their country, is to advocate for a nationwide, humane, and sustainable approach for the tens of thousands of stray dogs roaming the country.

Dedication showed what could be done for dozens of animals in ten days at a landfill, and only with your support, can we show what could be done for hundreds more. 🐾
