Anthony Pym. Translation history and the paradox of borders. A lecture given at the University of Vienna on December 8, 2016.
The lecture draws on material published in Method in Translation History (1998) and Negotiating the Frontier (2000) . it's a "golden oldies" collection, albeit not perhaps of greatest hits.
It was part of a conference on Romanian translators, so I was trying to underscore some possible parallels (a massive culture of exile from a repressive regime, for example). I prepared for 25 minutes, then was told I had to speak for more than an hour, so a lot of this is filler - and that's why I make mistakes in a few dates and names (but I always do that anyway, as a pretty lousy historian).
