There are an inordinate amount of museums that have working models of incredible quality built by extraordinary model engineers, or some times teams of them, either on commission or inherited once they pass away.
These models suffer from glass case syndrome. One of my goals is to cure such engines of this syndrome in any museum I visit.
This is an exhibition quality 1/4 sized (3" scale) model of a Lysander Button fire engine "Idella" of the Independent Volunteer Fire Co. The real engine still exists. Build date 1872. The model was constructed by James Lockhart. Thanks to the generosity and trust of Steven Heaver at the fire museum of Maryland, I was able to make this beautiful engine live again.
