Olivia Miles is playing chess while the rest of the rookie class is still learning checkers.
The turnover isn't what caught my eye. It was the 40 foot no look push pass that only missed because her teammate wasn't ready for that level of vision. That's the kind of read you don't teach.
Watch her run the pick and roll. She puts the defender in jail, veers off under control, and pulls up for a midrange shot that's usually reserved for stars who've been in the league a decade. She does it again just to prove it wasn't a fluke.
And the shot profile is what really gets me. Pull up threes off the dribble, contested, little room to work with, and she's ninth in the league in percentage on those looks. She's already got the Harden lunge, sidestep, late gather down as a rookie.
My favorite piece of her mechanics is the hop. Quick pound dribble, ball floats, right foot resets the space, lands on both feet with one sound, dips the ball horizontal into her body, then releases up and away. Right foot plant, ball to set point, knees straighten, elbow and wrist extend, splash. That rhythm is not an accident.
Fifty forty ninety as a rookie starter while running the best offense on the best team in the league isn't hype. It's just what the film shows. #shorts
