The Ostation 2 and Ostation 2 Pro came onto my radar last summer when Olight announced them through Kickstarter, and I jumped in early on both. Right out of the box, it's clear these are a significant evolution from the earlier Ostation X. They're noticeably smaller, cleaner in design, and clearly meant to be a "set it and forget it" battery management solution. Both models handle AA and AAA batteries, automatically sort good and bad cells, and keep everything organized so you always have charged batteries ready to go. The system works best when it's left running full-time, acting more like a battery station than a traditional charger you plug in occasionally.
The most significant difference between the two models is convenience. The Ostation 2 Pro adds a touchscreen display that shows charging status, percentages, and timers directly on the device, which means you don't have to rely on the app for basic information. It also includes a side magnetic charging port that lets you charge compatible Olight flashlights and accessories directly from the station. While the standard Ostation 2 does the core job well, the Pro feels more complete and polished, especially since you can control and understand everything at a glance without pulling out your phone. For a slight price difference, the Pro is easily the better single-unit choice.
That said, there are still some limitations. Charging is done in paired slots rather than fully independent channels, which means batteries drop together instead of individually when one finishes early. AAA-only users may also find the system less ideal compared to older models that allowed more simultaneous AAA charging. There are also questions around battery options, like why lithium-ion AAA support isn't included when those batteries do exist. Even with these drawbacks, the Ostation 2 lineup succeeds at its main goal: keeping a steady supply of charged batteries ready at all times. Fill them up, leave them running, and battery management becomes something you rarely have to think about.
