Note: Outdated. Only a couple days after posting this, a faster method of doing this was found. It turns out you don't even need to make an energy pack at all. Take pictures of the 3 ideas, but don't move them to the idea book. Invent the energy pack, then delete one of the photos used to invent it, and the story will progress without an energy pack.
A glitch in Dark Cloud 2 (Dark Chronicle) that lets you give Cedric an energy pack even after getting rid of it. Simply invent the energy pack, immediately make it without talking to Cedric, then get rid of it by either spectrumizing, selling, or discarding it, and Max will still manage to give an energy pack to Cedric.
