Glazing.
The technique of glazing appears to be the the most popular one that beginner oil painters are looking to learn. If your only experience of oil painting tuition is the wet on wet techniques of Bob Ross and Bill Alexander then this will be new to you. Glazing is a 'wet on dry' as opposed to a 'wet on wet' technique.

Note that the semi-transparent zinc white based glaze at the end overlaps the object to describe reflected light and also softens that edge.
