Hey everyone, today I’m going to show you how to perform an oil change on a 2005 Honda Accord Sedan.
Tools necessary:
- Jack & jack stands
- Oil Drain Pan
- 5 Quarts of 5w20 oil
- 17mm socket
- Torque wrench
- Oil filter wrench or strong hands :)
Steps
1.The first thing you want to do is to warm up the car and get it on jack stands. Warming up the oil will help it drain faster.
2. Remove the oil fill cap and slide your oil drain pan under the car. Use a 17mm socket to loosen the oil drain plug. Position your drain pan carefully so you don’t make a mess when the oil comes flying out.
3. Once the oil is done draining, reinstall the oil drain plug with a new crush washer. Then tighten the oil drain plug to 33 ft-lbs.
4. Now you want to replace the oil filter. Loosen the oil filter until oil starts dripping from it. Once the dripping stops completely remove it.
5. Apply some oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter and reinstall it. If you have a torque wrench you can tighten it to 16 ft-lbs. If you don’t have a torque wrench you can tighten the filter 7/8ths of a turn after the gasket first makes contact with the block.
6. Now that you’re done underneath the car, wipe away any excess oil.
7. Use a funnel to fill the car with 5 quarts of oil. When complete, replace the oil fill cap. If you’d like you can double check the oil level using the dipstick.
8. Remove the drain pan from under the car, lower the car back down to the ground and clean up your mess.
9. The last step is to reset the maintenance light! Hold down down the odometer reset button for ten seconds with the ignition in the off position. While still holding the button turn the ignition to the second position and continue holding the button until the light disappears.
