A police dashboard camera caught on tape the driver of this stolen car taking off with an Austin police officer hanging from the window. The officer recognized the driver from a burglary investigation the year before as well as recognized the green Subaru from a stolen car report she had taken the day before. While waiting for backup, she noticed the driver becoming impatient, reaching down to his leg area. The officer reached into the vehicle for the suspects arm and told him not to move but the man began to struggle with her and put the car into drive. With the officer's arm still trapped in the car, she struggled to get free as the car dragged her for nearly 15 feet after jumping a curb. She was able to free herself but as she fell, the vehicle ran over her legs. The officer was taken to the hospital with injuries to her back, neck, right knee and right shoulder. She eventually was able to return to work. The suspect was sentenced to 20 years in prison. (2006)
