San Antonio CORE (Community Outreach and Resiliency Effort) sends a mental health-trained police officer, a paramedic from the San Antonio Fire Department, and a licensed mental health clinician from the Center for Health Care Services to non-violent mental health calls. Call 911 to request the CORE team services in any part of the city at any time.
In the first-year pilot program, from April 2022 to March 2023, less than 1% of the calls ended in an arrest, and 35% of the calls were resolved on the scene. During follow-up calls with consumers, nearly 56% of consumers were connected to the Center for Health Care Services for the first time.
