Octopus Energy is the UK’s largest energy provider and is on a mission to accelerate the energy transition in a way that works for people and the planet. By unifying data from eight countries and multiple business lines on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, Octopus Energy operates what it calls the world’s largest virtual power plant made of electric vehicles, with 1.8 gigawatts of capacity that can be dispatched when it is cheapest for customers, better for the grid and better for the world.
Ingesting more than 10 trillion rows of data last year and supporting thousands of users across the business, Octopus Energy relies on Unity Catalog to keep access safe, secure and well governed while still enabling rapid collaboration. Looking ahead, the team plans to bring GenAI closer to this governed data with Agent Bricks so people across the company can safely build and experiment with agents, helping Octopus Energy stay ahead of the curve as a technology leader in the energy space.
