From Ed: Hi, I'm Ed Thompson, an independant documentary photographer who lives and works in London. On the 15th of October I photographed a group trying to Occupy the London Stock Exchange in Central London and had no idea what I was getting into. Normally the police enforce a kettle (containment area) as a form of crowd control and protesters wait for hours until they can leave, but on that day something changed, when the protesters were surrounded they set up tents and built a city. I ended up photographing Occupy London for the next five months, the photographs I took were used on the OccupyLSX facebook page, on the Occupylsx.org website and on the Occupy livestream. In November 2011 an edit of the series went viral online as a multimedia piece with poetry by a young occupier, J.J, with the help of OccupyLSX, Occupy Wall St, Anonymous and a host of photography critics/editors/bloggers it was shared to over 500,000 people in a week.
Having photographed OccupyLSX since the 15th October 2011 I have a large body of work. I was present for the OccupyLSX eviction and was the only journalist/photojournalist inside the Bank of Ideas eviction. I aim to produce a low-cost 100 page photography book containing an edit of five months of photographs and interviews to create a historical document.

In eight years of being a freelance photographer I've never received any funding or grants, so it is great that Indiegogo allows a platform for true independent media to be produced. I plan on donating 50 of the books to regional libraries and colleges in the U.K.

Bio: Ed Thompson (b.1980, Wales) developed a distinctive style from an early apprenticeship with the Russian photographer Sergey Chilikov, whom he met at the Arles Photography Festival 2002. In an apprenticeship in Paris he learnt the value of shooting everyday life, and how these images can allow you to touch at something great. He spent 16 weeks over two years (2006-07) photographing in the Texas Hill Country which he completed during the Master's Degree in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication for which he received a first class distinction. His documentary photo-essays have been published in international magazines & newspapers including National Geographic Magazine, Newsweek Japan, Greenpeace Magazine, The Sunday Times Magazine Spectrum Supplement (U.K), l'Espresso, D Republicca and IL (Italy), A Magazine (Belgium), Curated by (Belgium) and Der Freitag (Germany). He is a freelance photographer for The Telegraph Magazine, Guardian Weekend Magazine, The Sunday Times Magazine and IL Magazine (Italy). His work has also featured on television internationally and exhibited in photography festivals in Arles (France), Tampere (Finland) & London (U.K). He is represented for his editorial work by LUZphoto, Italy and Salt Images, Russia. He is represented for print sales in the U.K by Eyestorm.
