This is the Pop Culture Detective, AKA Jonathan Macintosh, a feminist. Quite an old ideological foe we got here. Reminds me back the mid-2010s. I think Macintosh is talking about the movie Obsession. I've heard a lot of good things about the film, but for the purpose of this video, you don't really need to watch the film. The trailer tells you what you need to know about it. It's about a guy who made a wish that a girl likes him, and the girl turns to be your typical crazy, obsessive Yandere girlfriend.
I think what Jon is trying to say is that you can make a commentary about male entitlement and misogyny without abusing, brutalizing, and torturing women. Yes. You can absolutely do that. This trope is called "Entitled to Have You." Beauty and the Beast has Gaston who thinks he deserves Belle, and that film isn't exactly brutal or at least not to Belle. The Super Mario Bros Movie has Bowser wanting and even singing Peach out loud. That film isn't exactly brutal either.
The thing is I am not focused on what you say. I am focused on why you say it because you saying all this is also you saying, "I don't like seeing women being brutally tortured or assaulted," in a horror film. It's just fiction, Jon. If you're not comfortable with it, that's your own personal discomfort. Your discomfort is not a valuable critique of the film. You're just saying to the world "Eww! I don't like it!"
What do you know? Even a decade later, Jon still makes pseudo-intellectual feminist takes that are nothing but an over-glorified "Eww, I don't like it."
